2026 NHPPA Annual Conference

March 27-29, 2026

Holiday Inn, 300 Woodbury Ave, Portsmouth, NH

Friday, March 27, 1-5PM
Abby Grace, "The Psychology of Posing"

Did you know that 70-93% of what you communicate has *nothing* to do with the words you use? Whether you're photographing a wedding day, a brand session, or senior portraits, nonverbal communication plays a *significant* role in how your message is received, so… are saying what you mean to say as you pose your clients throughout a shoot? This class is a head-to-toe walk through on how to ensure your clients' body language is aligned with whatever it is you're trying to convey, be it romantic portraits, business boss vibes, or sweet senior photos. We'll talk through the unconscious signals you might accidentally be sending, and how to use body language to say exactly what you mean to say, making you a master communicator behind the camera.

Saturday, March 28, 9AM-5PM
Jeff Carpenter, "Photographing with Purpose: Headshots & Branding"

Join photographer and educator Jeff Carpenter of Readylight Media for a full-day workshop focused on creating headshots and branding portraits that capture both personality and purpose. From clean, professional headshots to lifestyle-driven branding images, Jeff will guide you through how to design lighting setups that flatter your subject, fit the brand, and tell a compelling visual story.

You’ll start by exploring the key elements of effective headshot lighting, including placement, modifiers, and ratios, then move into how to build a cohesive look that aligns with your client’s brand identity. The day will include live demonstrations, hands-on shooting time, and in-depth discussion about posing, expression coaching, and client communication.

Whether you’re looking to refine your technique, strengthen your brand photography portfolio, or bring more intentionality to your client sessions, this class will give you both the technical tools and creative mindset to elevate your work.

Program description to come!

Sunday, March 29, 1:30-5PM

Pratik Naik, "Modern Portrait Retouching Workflow"

This class centers on true high-end, hand-crafted retouching for portraits and beauty from start to finish. You will see a full manual workflow that preserves texture, tone, and realism at the highest level often seen in my editorial and commercial work, beginning with perfect raw processing and ending with a refined, portfolio-ready image. Along the way, I will show where selective AI can help with speed for those who want it, while keeping creative control in your hands.

We will move through a clean workflow, foundational raw processing followed by precise skin cleanup with non-destructive tools and workflows that holds to the most thorough print standards. I will also demonstrate where tools like Evoto and targeted AI features in Photoshop can act as helpful tools to expedite workflows, among other programs. The focus remains manual craftsmanship and judgment, with AI used sparingly and only when it serves quality.

This is designed for photographers and retouchers who value nuance and control, this session gives you a practical, modern approach that meets top editorial and commercial expectations while implementing modern tools. No matter what angle you come into this with, I hope it will leave you with a repeatable manual workflow and a clear guide for when AI assists make sense, and the confidence to deliver work that you can be proud of!
